Place is considered a space that reflects the truth of human existence and expression, and the integration of the area creates a culture that is unique in its own region and when spaces merge, the result is countless new creations corresponding with the concept of “Assemblage” by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari which said, “Culture moves like ripples of water that waves horizontally. The water ripples will run toward free space no matter what is blocking it. The water flows back and forth to find channels to flow into other empty spaces. This characteristic makes it impossible to determine and indicate where the water mass begins to flow and at what point it stops. Culture therefore has a similar meaning to the flow of water masses and is related to various places where the water flows in.”
Time is one of the basic dimensions along with space. It is the core of the interaction between humans, things and events, including the emergence of several important concepts. As the moving of time lasts, the instability and change of things occurs endlessly, no matter what space or place.
For this reason, Anthony Giddens (1991), a British sociologist, was interested in the study of “Space and Time” by revealing the social science perspective on human’s view of “time” because humans are aware of their surroundings, thus, humans are different from other animals in the way that they have the ability to alter their experiences in the present moment by the abstract form of “memory”. Seeing the potential in new media causes space and time to separate (time-space distanciation), that is, there is a separation of now (present time) from the current space/place (present space).
The way we see the relationship of “time and place” in various areas creates different memory experiences. The concept that explains and highlights perspectives on photography and photography. Therefore it is like stopping time in that sense, a simulation of the context of stopping the movement of a slow or swift moment, through recording and freezing the said state in a certain form.
