Knowledge Sharing and Art Exhibition by Baan Noorg Art Community presents recent works, publications, products and further resources by Baan Noorg Collaborative Arts and Culture’s ecosystem. Baan Noorg is an artist-run collective based in Nong Pho, Ratchaburi. It was founded in 2011 by jiandyin with a focus on collaborative and community-based contemporary art practices. Since then, the collective has been organically growing into an ecosystem and international network to support artists and cultural organisations. Baan Noorg ecosystem consists of many divisions, supporting each other like a rice barn where people can come, take what they need, and give back if they have in abundance. Connecting, sharing and building platforms to exchange knowledge and practice are some of Baan Noorg’s key activities. These integrate and offer independent alternatives to the few support systems for artists and cultural organisations in Thailand. For example, NPKD (NongpoKiDdee), one of Baan Noorg’s divisions, was initiated to organise projects with children in the community of Nong Pho. In 2011, NPKD started a Social Enterprise: a local business model that aims to solve problems in the community by creating products or services from local resources, such as milk. In 2015, Wuabi milk soap was established as its first product in collaboration with small dairy farms in the village. Moreover, Baan Noorg’s Artist-In-Residence program for emerging artists supports their practice by providing spaces, facilities, mentoring, networking and visibility. As the *foundationClass collective puts it: “it takes a community to raise an artist”.
Showcasing Baan Noorg ecosystem’s endeavour to build a sustainable ecosystem for young creative practitioners, ‘It’s a matter of time’ features artworks by Wisarut Thatthong that were developed during and after his residency for emerging artists at Baan Noorg Collaborative Arts and Culture. Wisarut developed this body of work by observing lights from different sources and shadows that occurred in his surroundings at different times and turning them into sculptures and prints. The exhibition at Neilson Hays Library is a continuation of a previous show, ‘The Rite of Passage’, which was held in Nong Pho on March 18-26th 2023. For this second exhibition, Wisarut searched through the piles of what was left unused from the last project. He started by experimenting with the negative of his woodcut prints, the cut-off paper and thus made new sketches for two and three-dimensional works. Following a nonlinear approach, Wisarut went from making wood-carved, stucco sculptures to woodcut prints and back, thereby letting the sculptural work influence his printmaking and vice versa.
ปันความรู้และนิทรรศการศิลปะโดยบ้านนอกฯชุมชนศิลปะ นำเสนอผลงานล่าสุด สิ่งพิมพ์ ผลิตภัณฑ์ที่มาจากทรัพยากรต่าง ๆ ในระบบนิเวศของบ้านนอก ความร่วมมือทางศิลปวัฒนธรรม บ้านนอกฯ เป็นกลุ่มที่ดำเนินงานโดยศิลปิน ตั้งอยู่ในตำบลหนองโพ จังหวัดราชบุรี ก่อตั้งขึ้นในปี พ.ศ. 2554 โดย jiandyin มุ่งเน้นแนวทางปฏิบัติศิลปะร่วมสมัย และอาศัยความร่วมมือกับชุมชน ตั้งแต่นั้นมาบ้านนอกฯ เติบโตอย่างค่อยเป็นค่อยไป กลายเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของระบบนิเวศและเครือข่ายระหว่างประเทศ เพื่อสนับสนุนศิลปินและองค์กรทางวัฒนธรรม ระบบนิเวศของบ้านนอกประกอบด้วยส่วนต่าง ๆ มากมาย เกื้อกูลกันเหมือนยุ้งฉางที่ผู้คนสามารถมา หยิบใช้ในสิ่งที่ต้องการและให้คืนกลับเมื่อเหลือ การเชื่อมต่อ แบ่งปัน และการสร้างพื้นที่แห่งการแลกเปลี่ยนความรู้และแนวทางปฏิบัติเป็นกิจกรรมหลักของบ้านนอก สิ่งเหล่านี้ถูกผสานรวมและเสนอทางเลือกอิสระให้กับระบบสนับสนุนศิลปินและองค์กรทางวัฒนธรรมที่มีอยู่ไม่กี่แห่งในประเทศไทย ยกตัวอย่างเช่น NPKD (หนองโพคิดดี) หนึ่งในแผนกของบ้านนอกที่ริเริ่มจัดกิจกรรมกับเยาวชนในชุมชนหนองโพ เมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2554 NPKD ได้เริ่มดำเนินงานวิสาหกิจชุมชนเพื่อสังคม รูปแบบธุรกิจท้องถิ่นที่มุ่งแก้ปัญหาชุมชน ด้วยการสร้างผลิตภัณฑ์หรือกิจกรรมที่มาจากทรัพยากรในท้องถิ่น เช่น นม ในปี พ.ศ. 2558 สบู่นมสด Wuabi ถูกจัดตั้งขึ้นเป็นผลิตภัณฑ์แรก โดยได้รับความร่วมมือกับฟาร์มโคนมขนาดเล็กในหมู่บ้าน นอกจากนี้โครงการ Baan Noorg Artist-In-Residence ยังสนับสนุนศิลปินรุ่นใหม่ ด้วยการจัดหาพื้นที่ สิ่งอำนวยความสะดวก ให้คำปรึกษา เชื่อมเครือข่าย และสร้างทัศนวิสัย ดังที่กลุ่ม *foundationClass ได้กล่าวไว้ว่า “ต้องใช้ชุมชนเกื้อกูลศิลปิน”
การจัดแสดงระบบนิเวศของบ้านนอกฯ เป็นความพตั้งใจในการสร้างระบบนิเวศที่ยั่งยืนเพื่อนักสร้างสรรค์รุ่นเยาว์ ‘คือสสารของเวลา’ นำเสนอผลงานของวิศรุต ธาตุทอง ซึ่งได้รับการพัฒนาในระหว่างและหลังการพำนักในโครงการสำหรับศิลปินรุ่นใหม่ ณ บ้านนอก ความร่วมมือทางศิลปวัฒนธรรม วิศรุตพัฒนาผลงานชุดนี้ผ่านการสังเกตแสงจากแหล่งกำเนิดต่าง ๆ และเงาตกกระทบที่เกิดขึ้นรอบตัวเขาในแต่ละช่วงเวลา นำมาสร้างสรรค์เป็นประติมากรรมและภาพพิมพ์ นิทรรศการที่ห้องสมุดเนียลสัน เฮส์ เป็นนิทรรศการต่อเนื่องจาก ‘เวลา : เปลี่ยนผ่าน’ ซึ่งจัดขึ้นที่บ้านนอกอาร์ทแพทฟอร์ม ตำบลหนองโพ ระหว่างวันที่ 18-26 มีนาคม พ.ศ. 2566 ในนิทรรศการครั้งที่สองนี้ วิศรุตสำรวจวัสดุตั้งต้นจากผลงานครั้งก่อน เขาเริ่มต้นด้วยการทดลองกับพื้นที่ว่างรอบวัตถุบนภาพพิมพ์แกะไม้ และกระดาษที่ถูกตัดออกไป นำมาประกอบสร้างเป็นภาพร่างใหม่สำหรับผลงานสองและสามมิติ ตามแนวทางการทำงานที่ไม่เป็นเส้นตรง วิศรุตเริ่มจากการแกะสลักไม้ ประติมากรรมปูนปั้น พัฒนาไปสู่ภาพพิมพ์แกะไม้ และย้อนกลับไปมาระหว่างเทคนิคเหล่านี้ จึงทำให้งานประติมากรรมและงานภาพพิมพ์ของเขา ส่งและรับอิทธิพลกันไปมา
